Contraded key to Trump and Zelenskyy meeting, fundamental conversations with European leaders

President Donald Trump and Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, sounded positive since they gathered in the White House on Monday when Trump presses for the end of the Russian war against kyiv.

Zelenskyy joined Washington for a remarkable delegation of European leaders who rushed to the United States in support of the Ukrainian leader following Friday’s conversations between Trump and Vladimir Putin de Russia in Alaska.

The last time Zelenskyy was in the Oval office was in February, when he received a verbal roof from President Trump and vice president JD Vance, who accused him of not being grateful enough for US military assistance.

Monday’s sitting was a much more cordial issue, with Trump and Zelenskyy sharing smiles and Zelenskyy thanking the president for his personal efforts to close this conflict.

Subsequently, they sat with the European leaders, who before the news cameras press Trump publicly about the need for security guarantees for Ukraine as part of any agreement, after Trump made a new commitment at that point. Some also said that the fire would be necessary before additional negotiations or any trilateral meeting between Trump, Zelenskyy and Putin.

Here are some key conclusions of high -risk meetings.

Trump says that the United States will give Ukraine “very good protection”

President Trump said on Monday that the United States will participate in security assistance for Ukraine, but did not explain how exactly or would give any detail.

“We are going to discuss it today, but we will give them very good protection, very good security,” Trump said.

Later, the president confirmed that Putin said Russia would accept security guarantees for Ukraine.

Trump was not as far as the special envoy Steve Witkoff, who told CNN that Russia agreed “similar to article 5”. Article 5 is the collective defense agreement between NATO nations that indicates that an attack against a member is considered an attack against all of them.

Trump said Europe would need to assume much of the burden when it comes to security guarantees, but that the United States will play a role.

“They are the first line of defense because they are there,” Trump said before adding, “but we will help them. And we will also be involved.”

Trump returns the demand for high fire

After pressing the fire before and threatening the serious consequences for Russia if Putin did not stop the war, President Trump seemed to retreat that demand.

“I don’t think I need fire,” he said in the Oval office. “I know it could be good to have, but I can also strategically understand, as, well, you know, one country or another would not want.”

He continued that he likes “the concept of high fire for a reason, because you would stop killing people immediately.”

European leaders support Zelenskyy in security guarantees, high fire

Trump and Zelenskyy sat with a large number of European leaders in the East room after their bilateral conversations in the oval office.

At the table were the general secretary of the NATO Mark Rutte, the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, the French president Emmanuel Macron, the German chancellor Friedrich Merz, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer, the Prime Minister of Italy, Giorgia Meloni and the president of Finland, Alexander Stubb.

Almost all leaders emphasized the need for security guarantees for Ukraine, and several say that it should seem similar to the obligations of article 5. Ukraine is not a member of NATO, but the nation has pressed for membership, something that Russia is strongly opposed.

“The fact that I have said I am willing to participate in security guarantees is a big step. It is really a great advance,” Routte from NATO told Trump. “And it makes all the difference. So too, thanks for that.”

Macron de France and Merz of Germany challenged Trump in a high fire, insisting that it is a necessity to advance.

“The next steps ahead are the most complicated now … to be honest, we would all like to see the fire,” Merz de Germany said. Merz said he cannot imagine that a trilateral meeting can occur without a high fire in his place.

Trump says he will talk to Putin after meetings

Trump said he will call Putin after his Zelenskyy meetings and European leaders in the White House.

“We are going to have a phone call just after these meetings today, and we can or may not have a trilat. And if we do not have a trilat, then the fight continues. And if we do, we have a good opportunity, I think that if we have a trilat that there is a good possibility of finishing,” Trump said.

“But he expects my call when we end this meeting,” Trump added from Putin.
