The National Security Department has appointed the next funeral and commemorative service for conservative activist Charlie Kirk as a level 1 event of special events evaluation (SEAR), a DHS official said ABC News.
The funeral will have the same level of security as the Super Bowl or the Boston marathon.
Sear 1 events are “reserved for events of greater national importance and allow the federal government to provide the full range of security and security resources necessary to support local officials to guarantee a safe and successful event,” according to a DHS official.
President Donald Trump and other members of the Cabinet are expected to attend the service at State Stadium, home of the Arizona cardinals on Sunday.
William Mack, the special agent of the Secret Service in charge of the Phoenix field office, said in a statement that the secret service has been designated as the federal coordinator for the funeral.
“Our teams are already on the ground in Phoenix and Glendale, working together with state, local and federal partners,” Mack said. “Together, we are totally committed to ensuring that these solemn events receive comprehensive protection and support they require.”
Some of those local police officers include officers of the Glendale Police Department, Arizona.

The department is sailing for a greater security threat amid the expectations of a massive crowd in Charlie Kirk’s commemorative service on Sunday.
“We will not surprise us if more than 100,000 people appear,” said Jose Santiago, public information officer of the Glendale Police Department.
He says that people travel from all over the country and begin to place the service in order of arrival before 2 in the morning on Sunday, if not before. The parking lot opens at 7:00 am, local time. Camp in the area will not be allowed.
“The officers will be anywhere that the eye can see, and in places it cannot,” Santiago said, referring to airplanes, many air drones and listed helicopters.
The Department of Public Security and Secret Service will execute the show within the State Stadium.
Derek Mayer, the former special assistant agent in charge of the Chicago Field Office of the Secret Service, which supervised the large -scale events, told ABC News that the designation allows a “general government approach.”
“The DHS regularly declares events throughout the country as a SEAR level to guarantee the security of those who attend,” said Mayer, now director of Security and Vice President of Executive Protection in P4.
“This designation allows an ‘entire government’ approach, which means that many different local and federal agencies will provide resources and labor to guarantee additional security measures. With President Trump and many other high -profile people who are expected to assist, together with the amount of public care focused on the funeral, it makes sense that DHS to declare this as a Sear event,” Mayer added.
The funeral is open to the public, but those who plan to assist that they are registered in Turning Point USA are asked.
