The risk of floods now changes to the Carolinas with strong showers and thunderstorms that begin this afternoon and continue during the night as rain rates of up to 2 inches per hour are possible.
Dallas-Fort Worth is also at risk of excessive rainfall on Friday afternoon and night, with strong showers and expected thunderstorms and possible sudden floods in urban corridors.
Meanwhile, the western medium is being covered with smoke from Canada’s forest fires, leaving millions in dangerous breathing conditions as more than 650 forest fires are burning in Canada, with 275 labeled as “out of control.”
Minneapolis, Chicago and Detroit are among the top ten due to the worst air quality in the world among the main cities on Friday morning and air quality alerts are in place for all states of Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan and for parts of Nebraska and Missouri.
On Saturday afternoon, Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin are likely to have the worst smoke, but the nebulous skies will remain in much of the west medium.

In the west, the fires that burn to the north of the Grand Canyon and in Utah are creating a poor air quality and nebulous skies, since the Fire Dragon Bavo along the north edge of the Grand Canyon has burned 112,000 acres and is currently contained in 9%.
In the center of Utah, the Monroe Canyon fire has burned 48,000 acres and is at 7% content since evacuation orders have been implemented.
A total of 23 million Americans in six states are under heat notices on Friday, since heat rates between 105 and 110 from Louisiana to South Carolina are expected.
