Dozen wounds after the driver crossed the pedestrians in the Liverpool victory parade: officials

Dozens of people were injured after a pilot hit the pedestrians in Liverpool on Monday, authorities said, since hundreds of thousands had met in a parade that celebrated the Liverpool Football Club winning the English premier soccer title.

The alleged driver has been arrested, police said, after what the United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer called a “frightening.”

The vehicle crashed with “several pedestrians in Water Street” just after 6 pm local time, the meseyside police saying.

“Upon arrival, the crews met numerous people injured and four people trapped under a vehicle,” said Dave Kitchin, of the Northwest ambulance service, at a press conference.

Three adults and a child were taken from the vehicle, he said.

Twenty -seven people were transported to local hospitals, including two adults and a child with serious injuries, Kitchin said. Twenty people were treated in the place by minor wounds, he said.

“Unfortunately, four of the injured were children who enjoyed the day with their friends and their families,” Kitchin said.

The incident is not being treated as terrorism and other suspects are not sought at this time, according to the assistant chief of Merseyside, Jenny Sims.

Multiple roads had been closed for the parade, he said.

“Extensive consultations are ongoing to establish the circumstances prior to the collision,” said Merseyside police in a update while asking the public to “do not speculate on the circumstances surrounding the incident tonight.”

Police also asked people to send related images and “not share anguishing content online.”

“I know that people will worry understandably about what happened tonight,” Sims said at the press conference. “What I can tell you is that we believe this is an isolated incident.”

Starmer said the incident is “shocking.”

“Liverpool scenes are terrible: my thoughts are with all the injured or affected,” Starmer said in a statement. “They keep me updated on developments and ask them to give the police the space they need to investigate.”

Liam Robinson, from the Liverpool City Council, said the incident “throws a very dark shadow about what had been a very happy day.”

Liverpool Football Club said he is in contact with the police regarding the incident, which occurred towards the end of the parade.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have been affected by this serious incident,” the club said in a statement. “We will continue to offer our full support for emergency services and local authorities that are dealing with this incident.”
