New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs He faces charges of strangulation and assault, according to court records.

The complaint was made by a woman who worked as a private chef for the NFL player, according to court documents. During a Dec. 2 dispute over money she claimed Diggs owed her, he allegedly “punched her in the face” and “tried to strangle her by using his elbow around her neck,” the complaint says.

“She stated that as she attempted to remove his arm, he tightened his grip on her. At that point, the man threw her onto the bed,” the documents say.

Diggs’ attorney, David Meier, said the NFL player “categorically denies these allegations … because they did not occur.”

“They are not substantiated or corroborated and were never investigated, because they did not occur,” Meier said in a statement. “The timing and motivation for making the accusations are very clear: are the direct result of a financial dispute between employee and employer that was not resolved to the employee’s satisfaction.”

The Patriots stand by Diggs and said in a statement: “Stefon has informed the organization that he categorically denies the allegations.”
