Charlotte airport authorities said they were aware of the incident. “We are deeply sad for this news and we will support the investigation of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) as necessary. Airport operations continue as normal,” added the airport.

Unlike jumping on a train, save on a commercial plane almost always ends in death due to the dangers and extreme conditions to which a person is exposed inside the wheel well, according to the aviation analyst John Nance.

“A human body exposed for many hours at temperatures as low as less 60 degrees Fahrenheit cuts extensive freezing and limb loss, even if the lack of oxygen at 35,000 feet or more does not result in brain death,” Nance told ABC News.

Nance said there have been rare cases of survival, but it is almost unknown, and the risks for passengers and the crew are too dangerous to ignore.
